The results gave us a morale boost, and since in 2008 we didn't have any plans to operate in the HQ station in IARU, we decided to organize another M/S in IARU 2008, with the same operators and the same station. This time Murphy did not let us enjoy ourselves as much, first the balun failed on the explorer, then after changing it, that afternoon one of the 20m traps failed, leaving us without 20 or 40m. meant that we used the 80m delta loop, tuned, for the rest of the contest.

After finishing the IARU contest, we decided to formalize the Torrent Contest Club. We also talked to fellow URE Torrent member Juan Ea5GIE, who agreed to join the group. From there on, we had a long and hard road ahead of us to make a serious entry in CQWWDX SSB. This time we used two rigs, we had to make all the filters, repair the Explorer 14, raise tower 2 a bit higher to approx 14m, install another beam for the multiplier station, and lots more. In the end we had on tower 1 the explorer 14 with 40m kit, turned by a ham IV, with a linear loaded 5JK dipole. This dipole was erected at the last minute after failing to solve the trap problem at HP with the explorer. A double bazooka was hung off the tower for 80m, and the tower loaded for 160. On tower 2, a Mosley TA53M previously taken off the tower at Duncan's country QTH + Yaesu 450 rotator. Dave also installed a 2 element vertical beam for 40m.
